Our Future

At ASDA, we believe in low prices, but not at any cost. We aim to source 100% renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions by the end of 2008. It's a tough target, but we're already part way there. For example, we've already massively reduced road miles - and our partnership to develop a new £20m import centre in the North East will save another two million road miles a year by shipping 70% of our non-food imports direct rather than transporting them by road. We have also converted our entire fleet of trucks so they can run on bio diesel and have submitted planning applications to install wind turbines at six of our depots.

We'll continue to capitalise on the success of our new store formats (smaller stores for small towns and suburban areas, superstores with an average selling space of 47,000 sq ft, and supercentres with a sales area of around 87,000 sq ft) and are planning to open an additional one million sq ft of new selling space across the UK.
