Our History

ASDA was formed by a group of Yorkshire farmers in 1965 and now serves more than 13 million customers each week. We continued to grow as an independent business until 1999 when we became part of the WAL*MART family - the world's largest retailer, employing over 1.5 million people. Since then we've grown to become one of the largest food retailers in the UK, with 163,000 employees across more than 300 stores and 27 distribution centres - not forgetting ASDA House, our Head Office in Leeds.
