My degree included a year in industry so I considered placements at quite a few different companies. I was especially interested in GEORGE because I knew I wanted to work for a global brand. And when I actually started working here my feelings were reaffirmed by the exciting people and products I got to work with, which is why I ended up back here after I graduated.
As an Assistant Buyer you get to see the complete lifecycle of a product from the initial design concept to when the product is launched in-store. On a day-to-day basis my job involves anything from approving fabrics and fitting clothes on models, to working with marketing on press coverage and photoshoots. I also get involved in meetings with suppliers, work with designers on ranges and review sales.
It's a far cry from the photocopying and tea-making duties I half expected before I started. I've been given real responsibility, my opinions are taken seriously and I've been supported right the way through my time here. I've also been able to pick up a huge amount of experience, working intially on menswear, before moving into the womenswear department.
The whole experience has been even more amazing than I'd hoped; the highlight has definitely been walking into a store and seeing my product - or walking down the street and seeing someone wearing it.
