About the area
The HR function is new to our graduate programme, and is geared towards placing you in a head office role - focusing on policy rather than operations. You'll join the People Division, creating policies for all areas of the business, which will then be implemented by operational managers.
About your development
You'll spend your first few months in one of our Stores of Learning, getting an overview of the retail operation and observing the People Managers in-store so you can understand how policies work in practice. After that you'll move to ASDA House to work with a specialist team. This could be Colleague Relations (focusing on issues surrounding employment law), Reward and Recognition, or Resourcing and Development (how we recruit and train the right people). You'll be learning alongside the heads of the team so it's a steep learning curve and a great opportunity.
You'll then go back into Retail as a People Manager, which is a generalist role where you'll be responsible for up to 1000 colleagues - covering everything from recruitment to disciplinary procedures, from payroll to influencing managers. Finally, you'll move back into a department within ASDA House where you'll develop into a Team Leader role, taking more responsibility within the department. We're also happy to support you in studying for your CIPD qualification.
About you
We consider graduates from all disciplines, but if you have a degree with an HR component that would be a big plus. You need the maturity to establish credibility quickly with people in all areas of the business. You also need to be assertive, resilient and able to get things done in the short term - as well as taking a strategic perspective.
